Yash Chopra’s 1993 film Darr, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was a blockbuster. Aamir Khan was initially offered the role but declined it.

Aamir Khan spoke about rejecting Darr.
Yash Chopra’s Darr catapulted Shah Rukh Khan to a newfound fame. The 1993 film was a blockbuster success, establishing King Khan’s versatility as an actor. However, not many know that SRK’s character was initially offered to Aamir Khan. It was only after he rejected that the role went to Shah Rukh Khan. At an event, Aamir Khan, while discussing Darr once again, stated that he has no regrets about turning it down.
At the PVR Inox event, Aamir Khan said, “I was going to do Darr, but then I opted out of it for other reasons. It is very well made. Shah Rukh Khan was perfectly suited for the role. The soul Yash ji was trying to put in the film through me… If I was doing it, it would have gone wrong. I don’t regret not doing it.”
The celebration was also attended by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, who praised Aamir’s talent and said, “Aamir’s magic is that he puts his money on unconventional films. I asked him not to do Lagaan. Tried convincing him a lot. Made a list of what all could go wrong. He made a list and made a script with all those things.”
Darr is a psychological thriller directed by Yash Chopra, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. The film follows the story of an obsessive lover, Rahul (played by SRK), who relentlessly stalks Kiran (Juhi Chawla), despite her engagement to Sunil (Sunny Deol). The film was a massive success, solidifying King Khan’s foothold in the film industry. His chilling performance and the terrorising “I love you, K-K-K-Kiran” remains a cult classic. The film was praised for its gripping narrative, soulful tracks, intense performances, and Yash Chopra’s masterful direction.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan will be next seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par.
