Indian-origin US First Lady Usha Vance has been selected to lead the presidential delegation to Italy for the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games, President Donald Trump’s office announced on Thursday.

Usha Vance, a lawyer married to Vice President JD Vance since 2014, will lead the delegation to Turin, the host city of Italy for this year’s Special Olympics. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday (March 7).

“President Donald J Trump today announced the designation of a Presidential Delegation to Turin, Italy to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics World Winter Games, on March 7, 2025. Usha Vance, Second Lady of the United States, will lead the delegation,” the White House said in a statement.

The presidential delegation will include Shawn Crowley, American Chargé d’Affaires to Italy and San Marino, Trent Michael Morse, Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Presidential Personnel, Riley Barnes, Senior Bureau Official of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor in the US Department of State, Douglass Benning, Consul General, US Consulate Milan, Italy and more.

Usha Vance was seen sitting beside former high school volleyball player Payton McNabb during Trump’s address to a joint session of the US Congress on Tuesday. The First Lady was reportedly “heartbroken” after learning that Trump’s executive order on transgender athletes’ participation in women’s and girls’ sports was not codified into law by the Senate, McNabb told Fox News.
