Gossip culture is not a rare scene in Indian restaurants. With customers engaging in spirited conversations on various topics, it may seem like a lively aspect of the dining experience. This Bengaluru-based eatery, however, won’t entertain any random discussion when it’s about real estate or politics. The rule is mentioned on a board stuck on the wall at the restaurant. As mentioned by the authority, customers visiting the place in South Bengaluru are not allowed to indulge in political or property-related discussions while having food.

A photo of the board has gone viral, attracting reaction from many social media buffs. The instruction read, “This facility is only for dine-in purpose, not for real estate/political discussions. Please understand and cooperate.” A user shared the picture on X (formerly Twitter) with a humorous side note, “Clear instruction, alright.”

Many found the limitations quite practical. According to them, customers often occupy a table for hours while placing minimal orders, and this affects the business of the restaurant.

One of them said, “They keep talking rubbish loudly….10 people enter, order five coffees and bring the roof down.”

“Very common to see such boards in hotels and restaurants,” another added.

Some users, however, felt people should not abide by such rules in the restaurants when they are paying for the food as well as the ambiance itself. Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal Jain perhaps reckons the same as she asked, “Weird, why does he have to police what people are talking? They are paying for the food they eat, aren’t they?”

From a different perspective, a user explained, “I believe people get very agitated if there’s a political discussion and things can go in tangential directions or people just order coffee for the table and talk about politics/real estate for long durations, which may affect the business.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, another said, “These discussions are never ending, and the ones who indulge tend to spend a lot more time than the ones who are there just to eat, ending up occupying the tables for a longer duration.”

“Real estate uncles can’t go to the parks because Bangalore parks are all closed in the afternoon!” quipped an individual. The post has amassed more than 38,000 views on X.
