Change is the only constant in life and football. But Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim also realizes that change doesn’t come quickly, as he opened up on his journey with the Red Devils so far, reflecting on the “scars” that his players suffer from after playing under the ever-changing lights of Old Trafford.
To call Manchester United’s season so far as anything less than an utterly raging dumpster fire would be kind. Ask Amorim himself.
The United boss had earlier stated that there is no ‘saving’ their season, even if the Red Devils do end up clinching the UEFA Europa League, the only competition in which they have some glimmer of hope left.
“I don’t see it like that, nothing can save our season because at this club, you have to perform in every competition,” Amorim told TNTSports earlier this week, ahead of their trip to Spain for their Europa League match-up against Real Sociedad.
United have slumped to a historic new low so far this season, flailing at an abysmal 15th place currently, with a meagre 33 points after 27 games, as any hopes of finishing in the top 10 itself seems distant.
Amorim, though, attributed the difficulties the Red Devils are facing to the ‘scars’ left on the players from the tumultuous couple of seasons so far.

“To tell you the truth, I feel like sometimes there are scars in our team, in our players. They are all good players, but the scars are so deep and have stayed in them for so long that it is hard to change them all in one moment,” Amorim stated in an interview with Sky Sports.
The Portuguese boss also brought to light how the intense scrutiny and pressure the players endure from all ends while representing the Red Devils may also weigh on their minds, and asked for fans to be patient to witness change come.
“One moment, you’re playing under one coach, and the next, a new coach comes in, brings in new changes, new momentum. So, imagine being in the shoes of these players, it would be difficult to adapt all the time, especially with all the media and social media focus on you. So, it is really hard to turn things around just like that,” Amorim expounded.
Well, Amorim will be hoping that his goodwill inspires the locker room, as United will be taking on a hobbled yet dangerous Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
