As many as six Indian cricketers made it into the International Cricket Council’s team of the tournament for the Champions Trophy after putting up brilliant and consistent performances throughout the marquee event.

Three of India’s premier batters, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, made up the middle order of the team of the tournament. Mohammed Shami and Varun Chakravarthy, both of whom finished with nine wickets in the tournament.

Kohli produced two brilliant knocks, including a match-winning 84 against Australia in the semifinal, showing how even towards the fag end of his career, he is nowhere away from his peak.

During the tournament, Kohli crossed the landmark of 14000 ODI runs, becoming just the third player after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara to achieve the feat. He finished with 218 runs in five matches at a stunning average of 54.5.

Meanwhile, from India’s last four tournament games, Iyer‘s lowest batting return was 45, proving to be extremely consistent at No. 4 in tricky batting conditions in Dubai. He finished with 243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.6.

Rahul was reliable behind the stumps and a crucial performer in his role as India’s finisher with the bat. From four knocks, he finished unbeaten thrice. He played big roles during the knockouts, with two unbeaten innings in the semifinal and final. He scored 140 runs in four innings.

Reliable as always, Shami returned to the team in style, with 5/53 against Bangladesh in the opening group match. He contributed in the knockouts as well, picking four wickets in the last two matches. He finished with nine wickets at an impressive economy of 5.68.

ICC also named Axar Patel as the 12th player of the team. The India all-rounder contributed with the ball, taking five wickets and with the bat, scoring 109 runs, including a crucial 29 in the final. His economy was at an impressive 4.35.
