A woman from Gurugram has alleged ClearTrip and IndiGo Airlines of fraud, claiming that her flight tickets were cancelled without her consent. Sharing her experience on LinkedIn, the passenger stated, “We were scammed by ClearTrip and IndiGo—and this won’t stop here.” The woman vowed to take legal action, including filing an FIR against both companies for ‘harassment’ and ‘security breach.’
Recounting her ordeal, the woman noted that she had booked three tickets for an IndiGo flight from Lucknow to New Delhi on February 28 at 11:10 PM through ClearTrip. She completed her web check-in at 3:20 PM the same day, but upon reaching the airport, she found that her bookings had been mysteriously cancelled.
She shared, “I laughed, assuming this was some system error—until I checked their computer screen and saw our bookings had indeed been cancelled. I immediately called ClearTrip since we booked through them. They claimed my booking was cancelled at 7:35 PM. The booking was cancelled by IndiGo only after receiving confirmation three times.”
Shocked by the response, the user mentioned that she never got any cancellation notification, any call on her registered number and email address. She then demanded proof regarding the cancellation, but she alleged that both IndiGo and ClearTrip failed to provide answers. The user also claimed that another family of five faced a similar issue, where two of their tickets were also cancelled without their consent.
As a solution, IndiGo offered seats on an early morning flight, which she found unacceptable. She, therefore, booked a cab and travelled overnight, reaching home at 6:30 am after an exhausting journey.
She further wrote, “Some random person used my identity to cancel my booking. ClearTrip leaked my personal credentials. IndiGo has done absolutely nothing to rectify this (as expected). After countless emails, ClearTrip finally gave us the name and number of the person who made the cancellation call.”
At the end, she said, “This is not just an inconvenience—it’s identity theft, data breach, and fraud. I will also escalate this to the Cyber Crime department because ClearTrip leaked my personal information, and IndiGo let it happen without safeguards in place. If this can happen to us, it can happen to anyone. ClearTrip and IndiGo need to be held accountable.”
Taking to the comments section, ClearTrip expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the user and requested her to share her trip ID for better assistance. IndiGo also requested Gupta’s details to investigate the incident. The airlines wrote, “Ms Gupta, this is certainly not the kind of experience we’d like our customers to have. Could you please help us with your PNR over DM for proceeding further on this? ~Team IndiGo”
Later, the airlines confirmed the events in an official statement. An airline spokesperson said, “We are aware of a recent incident where a customer reported the cancellation of her tickets, booked through a third-party platform, without her consent. Upon investigation, it was found that a call was received on her behalf requesting assistance with the reservation. As per standard protocol, after verifying all necessary details, the request was processed accordingly.”
“We strongly advise all passengers to exercise caution and avoid sharing sensitive details such as PNR or booking information on public platforms and with unauthorised individuals or websites. Safeguarding our customers’ bookings is of utmost importance to us, and we comply with stringent verification processes to prevent any unauthorised modifications,” it added.
