For OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, leading one of the most groundbreaking AI research teams in the world is an accomplishment to be proud of. But even the most revolutionary tech breakthroughs pale in comparison to a personal milestone that has completely redefined pride for him – his newborn son learning how to eat. On Wednesday, Altman took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his emotions, writing, “Very proud of the OpenAI team for what is perhaps the most impressive scientific/technical breakthrough of recent decades.”
“Thought that was the thing I’d always be most proud of in life. Turns out I am now more proud of a preemie baby for learning how to eat on his own,” he added in his post.

Altman and his partner, software engineer Oliver Mulherin, recently welcomed their baby boy, who arrived prematurely and has been receiving care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In a follow-up post, Altman added, “I realise I am getting neurochemically hacked here but I don’t care, it’s the best.”

The OpenAI chief had first announced his son’s birth on February 23 with a heartfelt post, sharing a tender moment of the tiny newborn gripping an adult’s finger. “Welcome to the world, little guy! He came early and is going to be in the NICU for a while. He is doing well, and it’s really nice to be in a little bubble taking care of him. I have never felt such love,” he wrote.

While Altman and Mulherin generally keep their personal lives away from the public eye, they did make a rare public appearance together at the US State Dinner hosted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.
