India skipper Rohit Sharma was seen wearing a disgusted look after his pace-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya conceded 16 runs in an over, as New Zealand got off to a brilliant start in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday in Dubai.

As Rohit lost the toss for the 12th consecutive time in ODIs, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner opted to bat first.

Sharing the new ball with Mohammed Shami, Pandya couldn’t begin his spell on a high. He gave away 16 runs in his second over, including a six and two fours.

As the over ended, Rohit was seen wearing an unhappy look on his face and also used some expletives. Watch the video here:

New Zealand opener Rachin Ravindra took the attack to Pandya and after the 16-run over, the momentum shifted towards the Kiwis.

Shami, who had control over his bowling till then, gave away 11 runs in the next over, i.e. the fifth of New Zealand’s innings as the Kiwis moved from 10/0 after three overs to 37/0 after five overs.

The 16-run over by Pandya was the second-most expensive over for India in this edition of the Champions Trophy.

The sudden run-flow made Rohit introduce his trump card for the tournament, Varun Chakravarthy, but he bowled five wides on his first delivery. He gave away nine runs in that over.

The run-scoring only came under control in the seventh over, although Shami dropped Ravindra off his bowling in that over.

The 57-run partnership was finally broken by Rohit’s ‘trump card’ Chakravarthy, as he caught Will Young plumb LBW. Notably, Chakravarthy has now dismissed the latter twice in seven deliveries while scoring just two runs.

The 57-run stand was the highest opening partnership recorded against India in the ongoing edition of the Champions Trophy.

New Zealand scored 69/1 in the first powerplay, which was the joint-highest powerplay score in Dubai in the Champions Trophy. India had got 69/1 as well against Bangladesh in their opening game.

Just after the powerplay, Kuldeep Yadav got the better of Ravindra, who departed for a well-made, 29-ball 37.
