India skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday became the fourth captain worldwide to win two ICC titles, equalling the record held by Windies’ Clive Lloyd and Darren Sammy and Australia’s Pat Cummins. India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to clinch the 2025 Champions Trophy title in Dubai.

Rohit led India to the T20 World Cup last year when they beat South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados.

Ricky Ponting: 4

One of the greatest captains in the history of the game, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, led his mighty men to a whopping four ICC titles. He began his run by winning the 2003 ODI World Cup title by beating India.

Ponting’s next title as captain came in 2006, when he won the Champions Trophy, beating Windies at the Brabourne Stadium. He followed it up with the 2007 ODI World Cup title, beating Sri Lanka in Bridgetown.

Ponting’s last ICC title came in 2009, when he again won the Champions Trophy, beating New Zealand in Centurion.

MS Dhoni: 3

Former India skipper MS Dhoni is second in the list of illustrious captains to have won multiple ICC titles. He began his run by winning the 2007 T20 World Cup title by beating arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling final.

Dhoni’s next title as captain was in 2011, when he won the ODI World Cup, beating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. His last ICC title came in 2013, when he won the Champions Trophy, defeating England in Birmingham.

Rohit Sharma: 2

India skipper Rohit Sharma will be known as one of the most successful captains in the country’s cricket history. He began his run by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa in a thrilling showdown.

Rohit’s next ICC title came in 2025 when he won the Champions Trophy, defeating New Zealand in Dubai.

Clive Lloyd: 2

Former Windies skipper Clive Lloyd is third on the list of captains to have won multiple ICC titles. He began his run by winning the 1975 ODI World Cup, beating the mighty Aussies at the Lord’s.

Lloyd followed it up with the 1979 ODI World Cup, when the Windies beat England at their home.

Darren Sammy: 2

Former Windies skipper Darren Sammy equalled his compatriot Lloyd by lifting two T20 World Cup titles. He began his run by winning the 2012 edition of the tournament, beating Sri Lanka at home in Colombo.

Sammy followed it up with the 2016 T20 World Cup title, defeating England in the final at the Eden Gardens.

Pat Cummins: 2

Australia skipper Pat Cummins became a successful captain within months of taking up leadership for his country. He first won the 2023 World Test Championship final, beating India at the Oval and followed it up with the ODI World Cup that year, again defeating India at home in Ahmedabad.
