Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her character Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, was found dead at her New York apartment on February 26, sending shockwaves across the industry. After the star’s untimely demise, renowned producer Casey Tebo revealed that he was sent a script called ‘Toy Monster’ penned by Michelle through her boyfriend Jay Cohen. He claimed that the script was overlooked by the studios as Hollywood was not prepared for that side of her.

Casey Tebo shared, “The only scripts I remember staying with me like that in recent memory were two. Here Comes the Flood by Simon Kinberg and Toy Monster around 2019. Because they were the two best, by a landslide,” as quoted by People magazine.

Further revealing that he is trying to bring the story to screens, the producer added, “It’s about the struggle for credit, compensation, and recognition for success. Something Hollywood knows nothing about, I’m sure. We’re putting the pieces together to get this film made for Michelle. Maybe Michelle is looking out for us.” Casey Tebo also noted that he needed a good director to begin working on the movie.

Michelle’s script was reportedly an adaptation of Jerry Oppenheimer’s book Toy Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel. It depicts the power struggles and drama behind one of the world’s biggest toy companies. Additionally, the fallout between Mattel founders Ruth and Elliot Handler and toy designer Jack Ryan has also been beautifully covered in the popular book.

FYI, Mattel, the toy company, has also entered the world of filmmaking. Its last financed, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, grossed a whopping $1.6 billion in 2023. Given the success, the company is now set to finance several upcoming live-action adaptations of iconic toy lines such as Barney, Masters of the Universe and Matchbox.

Michelle Trachtenberg was declared dead after the police officials discovered her lying unresponsive in her New York apartment. While the investigation is currently underway, reports suggest that she was facing numerous health challenges and was seemingly unwell days before her death. Apart from Gossip Girl and Buffy, Trachtenberg has appeared in notable titles such as 17 Again, The Ice Princess, Harriet the Spy, and a single episode of Law and Order.
