India defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets on Sunday to clinch their third Champions Trophy title. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s spectacular 76-run knock and his 100-run partnership powered the team to chase down 251 overs with 6 balls to spare.
The winning runs were scored by Ravindra Jadeja as he scored a boundary of William O’Rourke, causing the fireworks to burst as the team came out to celebrate the emphatic victory in the CT 2025 final over the Kiwis.
While Jadeja and Harshit Rana performed the Gangnam Style, Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for just 1 from 2 balls, were seen playing ‘dandiya’ with the wickets.
India’s victory spurred a torrent on memes on social media, with many mocking Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for calling Rohit Sharma “fat” and “unfit”. Other memers also took potshots on Pakistan, the host of this year’s Champions Trophy, who were unable to host the final of this tournament.

Earlier in the day, the Black Caps got off to a flying start after New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bat, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s explosive 37-run knock. However, the spinners pushed the Kiwis on the backfoot, with Varun Chakravarty dismissing Will Young for 15. This was followed by Kuldeep Yadav picking up Rachin and Kane Williamson (11).
Daryl Mitchell (63) and a late cameo by Michael Bracewell (53) powered New Zealand to 251 for 7 at the end of 50 overs. India began superbly thanks to Rohit ‘Hitman’ Sharma’s knock, but New Zealand made a superb comeback by taking three wickets in 17 runs.
It was up to Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) to steer India to stability before KL Rahul (34) and Hardik Pandya (18) took the reins to power India to a historic victory and help alleviate the pain from the 2023 World Cup final against Australia.
This is India’s third ICC Champions Trophy title. India shared the coveted trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 after the final was washed out, while the team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni clinched the trophy in 2013.
