Mindy Kaling REACTS To Backlash Meghan Markle Got For Being ‘Rude’ On Netflix Show: ‘I Noticed…’

Mindy Kaling has addressed the social media buzz surrounding her appearance on Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. The Sex Lives of College Girls creator, 45, appeared on The View on Thursday to discuss her latest show, Running Point. During the conversation, co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin asked about her experience filming with Meghan, 43, for the Duchess of Sussex’s cooking and lifestyle series.

“You know, I had a great time,” Kaling responded, before acknowledging the online chatter surrounding an interaction she had with Meghan regarding her last name.

“I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan, it becomes like…,” she said, pausing to find the right words.

“Big news,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg chimed in. “Big news,” Kaling agreed.

She explained how social media users analysed her facial expressions in a clip where Meghan clarified that she now goes by “Sussex” rather than “Markle.” Internet trolls accused Meghan of being ‘incredibly rude’ to her own close friend Mindy on the show.

“We were making sandwiches and, you know, then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly didn’t even remember, ’cause we shot it, like, nine months ago,” Kaling shared.

Despite the online speculation, she had nothing but praise for the Duchess of Sussex. “I loved my time with Meghan,” she said.

Referring to her own Netflix series, Running Point, starring Kate Hudson, Kaling added, “I’m also like, let her promote her show, I’m here to talk about Running Point!”

She also noted, “It’s fascinating seeing… the reaction to her.”

Kaling, who previously appeared on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast, spoke about filming With Love, Meghan while on the Golden Globes red carpet earlier this year.

“I mean, I had had my baby and I think I was two months postpartum and [Meghan] texted me and was like, ‘Do you want to be on my show?’” she recalled.

She added that one major perk of filming with Meghan was the food.

“When you hang out with Meghan, you know the food is going to be good. So it’s just nice for somebody else to be cooking for me.”

On the second episode of With Love, Meghan, the Duchess revealed she no longer uses “Markle” as her last name, wanting to share a surname with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
