Netflix has officially renewed With Love, Meghan for a second season, despite its lukewarm reception and a poor 2.7 IMDb rating. The streaming giant announced the renewal just three days after the show’s premiere, confirming that filming for the next batch of episodes has already wrapped. The new season is expected to drop in the fall.

With Love, Meghan is a lifestyle series featuring Meghan Markle alongside “friends old and new,” including Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, and renowned chefs Roy Choi and Alice Waters. Set in her Montecito home, the show presents Meghan’s take on cooking, gardening, and home life, embracing what Netflix describes as “playfulness over perfection” while offering personal tips and tricks.

The series was originally slated for a January debut but was delayed following the L.A. wildfires. Despite a strong presence in Netflix’s in-app top 10 rankings, the show has been met with largely negative reviews. The Hollywood Reporter criticized it as “an oddly timed peek into how the other half lives,” while The Independent’s Katie Rosseinsky gave it a one-star rating, calling it “queasy and exhausting.”

Produced by Archewell Productions—Meghan and Prince Harry’s media company—in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television’s Intellectual Property Corporation, the series boasts Meghan as an executive producer alongside Archewell’s Chanel Pysnik, IPC’s Aaron Saidman, Eli Holzman, Michael Steed, and showrunner Leah Hariton. Steed also directs the show.

The renewal comes despite intense backlash, with critics and even Meghan’s estranged half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., questioning her portrayal of a modest upbringing. In one episode, Meghan, 43, referred to herself as a “latchkey kid” and recalled living on fast food and TV dinners, claiming she often ate at places like El Pollo Loco, Taco Bell, and Jack in the Box. She also reiterated a 2021 claim that she “grew up on the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler.”

Thomas Jr., however, wasn’t convinced. Speaking to TalkTV, he dismissed Meghan’s statements as exaggerated, saying, “That’s just another one of the malarkey stories she sold to the royal family for sympathy. We weren’t poor. She didn’t have to rub two nickels together at Sizzler’s salad bar.”

Criticism of With Love, Meghan has been widespread, especially from the British press. Journalist Kristine Froeba took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock Meghan’s homemaking skills, writing, “Meghan Markle’s latest narcissist Netflix fiasco begins with faux beekeeping, faux gardening, and faux cooking… She has no clue how to chop garlic, and her pasta dish is revolting nonsense.”
