Hollywood is once again abuzz with yet another drama. This time, actors George Clooney and Margot Robbie have found themselves at odds over rival projects within the Ocean’s franchise. While the Ticket to Paradise actor has been teasing a much-awaited sequel in the highly popular heist movie franchise, Margot, on the other hand, is reportedly furious over what she sees as an obstacle to her own prequel project.
Recently, George confirmed that Ocean’s 14 is already in the works, with a “really good script” being drafted, which would see him return as the iconic Danny Ocean. His upcoming film in the heist franchise will reportedly be different from the previous instalments. While the past film focused on high-stake heists, the new film is said to be exploring the theme of ageing, where he and his crew will realise that they are “too old to do the jobs we used to be able to do.”
On one hand, fans of the Ocean’s franchise are delighted with the news. On another, Margot Robbie is miffed, who has been working on a separate Ocean’s prequel alongside her Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling. Her film will reportedly delve into the origins of Danny Ocean and his sister, Debby, played by Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s 8. As reported by Radar Online, the 34-year-old actress is furious over the news as she had been working on the project for quite some time, and the recent announcement by George has put her in a difficult position.
“Margot is mad. She’s too respectful of George to voice her concerns, but his reboot is likely to overshadow her movie,” a Hollywood insider told the aforementioned outlet. The tension between the two actors arises from the possibility that the Batman & Robin star’s project could steal the limelight from Margot’s version, which could make it difficult for the prequel to gain traction.
While the actress has no objection to another sequel, the insider shared that she felt George’s announcement was an attempt to “jump the queue.” Despite the brewing conflict, both projects are still in the preliminary stages of production.
Speaking of their work fronts, Margot Robbie is currently focused on a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights alongside fellow Australian actor Jacob Elordi. Meanwhile, the 63-year-old actor-director is all set to take the stage on Broadway with a play based on his 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck.
