An 18-year-old from Nandleta village in Madhya Pradesh has entered the Guinness World Record for having the hairiest face in the world. According to the Guinness World Records (GWR) website, Lalit Patidar has 201.72 hairs per square centimetre with over 95% of his face covered in hair.
His condition is linked to a rare disorder called hypertrichosis which is also known as werewolf syndrome. This condition causes excessive hair growth on different parts of the body. GWR website states that only around 50 documented cases of hypertrichosis exist across the world.
Lalit became aware of his condition as a child. In a previous interview with the New York Post, he shared that his parents initially did not notice anything unusual about him.
“My parents claim that I was shaved by the doctor at birth, but I didn’t become aware of the difference until I was approximately 6 or 7 years old. The hair started to sprout all over my body at that point, unlike anyone else I knew,” he said.
Growing up, Lalit faced many challenges because of his appearance. Strangers often stared at him and he received nasty comments.
“They were scared of me but when they started knowing me and talking to me they understood I was not so different from them, and it was just on the outside that I looked different, but I’m not different inside,” he told GWR.
Over time, he learned to embrace his uniqueness. He now runs a YouTube channel where he shares his daily life with viewers.
Recently, Lalit travelled to Milan, Italy, to appear on the television show Lo Show dei Record. There, his facial hair was measured to confirm if he officially held the record. A trichologist assessed his facial hair density by shaving small portions of his face for accurate measurement.
After learning that he had broken the record, he expressed his happiness.
“I am speechless, I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to get this recognition,” he said.
Although most people treat him well, he still comes across those who suggest he should remove his facial hair. However, he remains firm in his decision.
“There is not much to say to people about that. I tell them that I like how I am and I don’t want to change my look,” he stated.
According to a report in Nai Dunia, Lalit lives with his parents and has four sisters. He is the only son in the family. Doctors have mentioned the possibility of treatment or surgery after he turns 21.
