Away from the chaos of city life, imagine a few days in the wilderness surrounded by nature. An absolute dream, however temporary, isn’t it? Well, a British-Indian couple has turned this dream into a reality. Rishni from Kerala and Oliver from the UK have embraced slow living, spending days in bliss at God’s Own Country, Kerala. Their videos on Instagram capture the beauty of living in a small town, which is simple yet fulfilling. Rishni and Oliver’s “Slow life in Kerala” series has amused several social media users.
One such video that has grabbed eyeballs showcases Oliver learning how to make banana plates using leaves. Rishni’s grandmother helps him in the process. The clip begins with Oliver slicing a banana leaf with a knife and washing it with water. “This was fun! This was when grandma was showing Ollie how to cut the banana leaf from our garden to use as a plate for lunch (sadya).”
In another video, Oliver was seen climbing a coconut tree to collect pesticide. He was assisted by a helper. The side note said, “This was when Ollie tried climbing our coconut tree. Our helper was adding a pesticide to the tree to get rid of pests.”
Oliver also attempted to make pooris for breakfast with Rishni’s grandmother. In the video, he made round-shaped doughs and rolled them with a rolling pin before putting the flattened doughs inside the pan. “Sunday mornings in Kerala. Making puri for breakfast with Ollie in charge! He woke up early to help out in the kitchen because in India we have our breakfast around 9 am on weekends! No brunch around here lol,” the caption said.
The internet was quick to react to the videos.
