India will face New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday in Dubai. The high-voltage match is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium from 2:30 PM IST onwards. It will be the third time in history when these two teams will face each other in the final of any ICC event. On the past two occasions, New Zealand stunned India by 4 and 8 wickets, respectively, to win the title, but this year, the Indian men’s cricket team would like to produce a different result.
There will be high expectations from the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have played multiple matches for India against the Kiwis in ICC events across formats.
Here’s a look at how India’s Champions Trophy 2025 stars have performed against New Zealand in ICC events:
Rohit Sharma – 192 runs in seven matches
Rohit Sharma has played three ODI World Cups, two T20 World Cups, one Champions Trophy, and one WTC Final match against New Zealand since making his international debut in June 2007. He scored 1 run against the Black Caps in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal at Old Trafford, 46 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup league match, 47 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup semifinal, and 15 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match. In addition to that, Rohit scored 5 runs in the 2016 T20 World Cup match played at VCA Stadium in Nagpur and 14 runs in the 2021 T20 World Cup group stage match. In the two innings of the 2021 WTC final, Rohit hammered 34 and 30 runs for the Virat Kohli-led side.
Shubman Gill – 144 runs in four matches
Shubman Gill scored 26 and 80 runs in two ODI World Cup 2023 matches against New Zealand, and in the 2021 WTC final, he got out after making 28 and 8 runs in two innings. In the Champions Trophy 2025 match played between the two teams, Gill was dismissed for 2 runs from seven balls by Matt Henry on March 2, 2025.
Virat Kohli – 313 runs in seven matches
Like Rohit, Virat has also played seven matches in ICC events against the Black Caps. In the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal, Kohli got out for 1 run, but in the two 2023 ODI World Cup matches, he scored 95 and 117 runs against them. In the Champions Trophy 2025 match, Kohli scored 11 runs from 14 balls, and in the T20 World Cup, he has 23 and 9 runs against the Black Caps. Kohli was the captain of the Indian team that lost the 2021 WTC final against New Zealand, and in that match, he scored 44 and 13 runs in two innings.
Shreyas Iyer – 217 runs in three matches
Shreyas Iyer scored 33 and 105 runs in two ODI World Cup 2023 matches played against the Black Caps and 79 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played in Dubai on March 2, 2025.
KL Rahul – 108 runs in five matches
KL Rahul has 1, 27, and 39* runs to his name in three ODI World Cups, 18 runs in one T20 World Cup, and 23 runs in one Champions Trophy match played so far against the New Zealand team.
Hardik Pandya – 101 runs and 2 wickets in four matches
Hardik Pandya scored 32 runs and picked one wicket in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal against New Zealand at Old Trafford, and in the 2016 T20 World Cup match, he scored one run. He was also part of India’s playing XI in the 2021 T20 World Cup match, where he scored 23 runs. In the 2025 Champions Trophy match, Pandya scored 45 runs from as many balls and then picked up one wicket.
Axar Patel – 42 runs and 1 wicket in one match
Axar scored 42 runs as the No. 5 batter in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played in Dubai on March 2 and also picked up 1 wicket for 32 runs in 10 overs.
Rishabh Pant – 89 runs in three matches
Rishabh Pant scored 32 runs from 56 balls as a No. 4 batter in the 2019 World Cup semifinal, and in the 2021 T20 World Cup match, he made 12 runs from 19 balls. He was India’s wicketkeeper-batter in the 2021 WTC final but was only able to score 4 and 41 runs in two innings.
Ravindra Jadeja – 189 runs and 4 wickets in seven matches
Ravindra Jadeja scored 77 runs and picked up one wicket in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. In two matches of the 2023 World Cup, he was not able to take any wickets but scored 39 runs in Dharamsala. In the 2016 T20 World Cup, Jadeja dismissed one Kiwi batter but got out for a duck, and in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he remained unbeaten on 26 runs but was not able to take any wickets.
In the 2025 Champions Trophy match, Jadeja scored 16 runs and picked up 1 wicket, whereas in the 2021 WTC final, he scored 15 and 16 runs in addition to taking one wicket in the first innings.
Kuldeep Yadav – 5 wickets in three matches
Kuldeep Yadav picked up 2 and 1 wicket in two 2023 ODI World Cup matches against New Zealand, and in the 2025 Champions Trophy match between India and New Zealand, he finished with figures of 2 for 56 in 9.3 overs.
Mohammed Shami – 16 wickets in five matches
In the two matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup against New Zealand, Shami finished with figures of 5/54 in Dharamsala and 7/57 in Mumbai. He bowled four overs in 2025 Champions Trophy matches but was not able to take any wickets, and in the 2021 T20 World Cup match as well, he remained wicketless. Shami also played in the 2021 WTC final against New Zealand and picked up four wickets for 76 runs in the first innings.
Varun Chakaravarthy – 5 wickets in 2 matches
Varun Chakaravarthy has played two matches against New Zealand in ICC events. While he was not able to take any wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup match, he accounted for the dismissal of 5 Kiwi batters for 42 runs in 10 overs during the 2025 Champions Trophy match played on March 2.
Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Washington Sundar are three players from India’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad who are yet to play any match against the Kiwis in ICC tournaments.
