Mohammed Shami injured his finger trying to hold on to a ‘caught and bowled’ as Rachin Ravindra hit his delivery straight back to him during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The incident happened on the third ball of the seventh over after Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bat first.

Mohammad Shami bowled a full delivery at the stumps as Rachin Ravindra hit it straight back towards the bowler.

Shami tried to gather the ball on his follow-through over his left shoulder, with a reverse cup but lost sight of the ball. He had both his hands right in front of his eyes as the ball ricochet off his little finger on his left hand as the ball went to the mid on region for a single.

Shami appeared to have a cut on his little finger as the physio came out to assess him and taped up his fingers.

This isn’t the first catch dropped by Shami in this edition of the Champions Trophy as he could not hold on to two similar chances against Australia in the semi-final.

Fans on social were not happy with Shami and yet were concerned for his injury:

The Indian pacer returned to complete the over but went off the field at the end of the over for more checks. He was back bowling after the very next over.
