A man from Poland battling terminal cancer, decided to celebrate his life in the most unique way. He, along with his daughter, hosted a special Goodbye party for his near and dear ones, to thank them “while he is alive” for making his life special at some point. A video of the unusual celebration has gone viral, winning hearts of social media users.
In the viral video, the daughter explained that openly acknowledging a person’s impending death is often avoided in Poland as it is believed to bring bad luck. In the country, people are traditionally honoured and remembered after their funerals at a gathering known as Stypa. However, her father turned custom by organising a Pre-Stypa to personally thank his loved ones one last time.
She said, “Last month my dad threw himself a Goodbye party, knowing he will soon pass away from cancer.” The elderly patient, on the other hand, added, “I am a bit nervous as everything is not prepared perfectly but, I think we’ll be okay.”
The daughter added that some of the guests were shocked by the celebration, while some felt inspired. “His idea was to skip the post-funeral celebrations-where he wouldn’t be present- and instead properly say goodbye to his friends and family while still alive,” she continued.
For the gathering, the man sent out invitations to 50 special guests. The evening was filled with shared memories and gratitude as he presented a slideshow and recounted anecdotes about each of his guests.
In no time, the video grabbed the attention of users and many were deeply moved by the man’s unique farewell celebration. An Instagram user wrote, “That’s how we should prepare for transitioning to another dimension. That’s how it’s done! Bravo for your father.” Another one commented, “Wow, your father really is a legend.” A person stated, “The best thing I have seen in a while. He did it HIS WAY! Rockstar dad, rockstar daughter. Bless his soul.”
