Nikhita Gandhi has established herself as a popular playback singer and now she is embarking on setting another feather to her cap. The singer is developing something unique for female musicians in the industry by curating Sonic Tigress, an all-female music event. In her latest interview with Hindustan Times, Nikhita stated that her goal was to make it entirely female lead from the technical team to the security. She aims to make this a ‘by women for women’ initiative.

During the interview, Nikhita Gandhi stated that the music festival will be held in Bengaluru on March 29 and will include performances by female comedians in addition to musical artists. While the singer does not yet have a final list of artists, she has announced a collaboration with American singer Vidya Vox. She added, “I didn’t want to make it like a social thing, because we have enough of those. I just wanted to give a very unique niche experience to women where they could just be. Bringing this to a reality has been a dream come true.”

Moreover, Nikhita added that curating this festival was not an easy task as it showed her how there is a paucity of female technicians in the industry. She said, “We really struggled to find a woman sound engineer and women light engineers. They are very male-dominated jobs, and you don’t see many women in them.” The singer stated that while they managed to find a female sound engineer, they still need to find a female light engineer. Through this initiative, she hopes to inspire and motivate more women to pursue these careers.

Nikhita also spoke about the dearth of many female names in sectors, such as composers and lyricists. While Nikhita has had quite a good experience working with men who compose music inspired by women in their lives, she believes, “The women’s perspectives that comes with bringing up women producers and composers, it’s usually a very different and fresh take. I would love to hear more of that because I think it would change the scape in the music industry.”

Nikhita Gandhi recently performed at the third edition of Seagram’s Royal Stag BoomBox In Guwahati.
