Anand Mahindra has long believed that his presence jinxes India’s chances in cricket. As India faced Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final yesterday, a cricket fan made an unusual request on social media. Pradeep Belwal requested the businessman to avoid watching yesterday’s Champions Trophy match between India and Australia to avoid bringing bad luck to the Men in Blue.
“Anand Mahindra, please don’t watch Ind vs Aus,” Belwal replied to one of Mahindra’s social media posts praising a pavement in Chennai.
Responding to the unusual request, Mahindra confirmed that he had indeed stayed away from the match. “Of course, I didn’t. And as a result, we won…,” he wrote.
India took on Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final yesterday in Dubai and secured a four-wicket victory. After winning the toss, Australia opted to bat but were bowled out for 264. Virat Kohli played a crucial role in India’s win with a brilliant 84-run knock, falling just 16 runs short of his second century in the tournament. Hardik Pandya brought India close with three powerful sixes, and KL Rahul hit the match-winning six.
India will now face either New Zealand or South Africa in the final on Sunday.
